To round everything out, I even tested Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2. I really enjoy the challenge of these types of titles and playing them with an arcade stick adds another dimension to the gameplay. I played Silpheed: The Lost Planet, R-Type Final, and Castle Shikigami 2. Like mentioned earlier, I also tested out some shooters (or shmups). I mean, those are some bad ass compilations to begin with, but being able to experience games like Street Fighter II, Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts, Strider, and Captain Commando with an arcade stick in tow felt especially satisfying.

Now that was truly a blast with the arcade stick. I moved right along to the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 1 with the highlights being Last Resort, Shock Troopers and Metal Slug being the highlights. In terms of arcade games I played SNK Arcade Classics Collection Vol. To test the Asciiware Specialized Joystick out, I played a little bit of everything. I didn’t happen use the slowdown function, but I did use the turbo function when playing the shooters R-Type Final and Silpheed: The Lost Planet. I was looking for any stickiness in the buttons considering I got it second-hand, but I didn’t notice any. I noticed that the buttons felt nice to press and the stick felt accurate and clicky.

It has enough weight to stay in place, but is light enough to be portable if the need were to arise. As stated earlier, the arcade pad is made of steel, but rather than making the controller feel heavy it just feels sturdy. The controller plugged up just fine and while the controller is wired, it didn’t leave me feeling tethered to my TV due to the 7ft length. The Ascii Specialized Joystick also features turbo switches associated with each button as well as a slow down function that allows for slowed gameplay or a little extra time to practice fighting game combos. The stick itself did not wobble on its own and gave a satisfying click when I rotated it. The placement of the buttons is your typical 8-button layout. It resembles the shape and design of the original Playstation 1 all the way down to mimicking the airflow on the side of that classic console.

Sliding it out of the box, I immediately noticed the shape of the steel game pad. Even though the box was a bit more worn than I typically pick up, the price was right and I had been thinking about getting an arcade stick for the Playstation and Playstation 2 anyway. Needless to say, I bought the controller.
